Music at Cornerstone – Handel: Samson
Sunday 17th January 2016 at 7.30pm
HANDEL: SAMSON, featuring the Cornerstone Chamber Choir, Orchestra and soloists. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to enjoy one of Handel’s greatest oratorios, written in the immediate aftermath of Messiah. Many commentators consider the arias in Samson to be finer than those of Messiah. The choruses are dramatic and thrilling and reveal Handel’s theatrical flair. The climax of the work is the great aria ‘Let the bright Seraphim’ and chorus ‘Let their celestial concerts all unite’, famously conducted by the late Sir David Willcocks at the wedding of the Prince and Princess of Wales 35 years ago. A line-up of outstanding soloists will join the Cornerstone Chamber Choir and Orchestra for what promises to be a memorable evening.
