We are a small network of Christians from different churches in Milton Keynes linked to the congregations of the Pauluskirche (Protestant) and Martinskirche (Catholic) in Leipzig-Grünau.
On exchange visits we explore contemporary themes of relevance to us all as Christians in Europe, worship together, visit amazing places, share great food and build warm and lasting relationships. Highly recommended!
People from a range of churches in Milton Keynes support this Mission Partnership Link and we enthusiastically welcome new-comers. Some of the group speak German, but by no means all.
The Leipzig Link is flourishing in 2016
New faces, new hosts and a topical theme contributed to the success of the latest visit to Milton Keynes in July by our long-standing friends from the Leipzig-Grünau Churches. For the first time, for many years at least, the group included those of school age, so a participatory visit to a Milton Keynes primary school was possible.
As we indulged ourselves in trips to London and St Albans, enjoyed a super BBQ party at St Paul’s school as guests of the MK Catholic Community, we also focussed our study times on the plight of the migrant and sought to understand their situation in both our countries. ‘Brexit’ was the ‘elephant in the room’ that had to be brought into the open! We were relieved to be greeted with genuine concern for the UK among the visitors.
At our plenary session a Christmas star was presented to the Link for the churches of Milton Keynes and each of us was given a ‘Playmobil’ Martin Luther figure, together with an invitation to share in the 2017 Kirchentag in Leipzig. We have it on good authority that one Protestant Minister now shares his study with ‘Luther’!
Our time together culminated in a sublime Evensong at St Mary Magdalene, Willen, sung by the Quorum group and addressed in German and English by Klaus Reidel. Farewells in the evening sun afterwards were long and heartfelt – despite the 4.00am start of the return journey the next morning!
